Comments on: Social Security benefits decreasing in 2010 and 2011?

My husband just started receiving disability. In the Estimate of Benefits he received in 2010 (for 2009) (I found out they stopped mailing them out in 2011), the payment was $43 more than what he is actually receiving. The SS website doesnt address this decrease. He doesnt receive Medicare yet, so that isnt the answer. Does anyone know why his payment would be less, even though he eraned the same amount in 2010?

I want to do something about the injustice of american citizens getting less than $700 a month to live on. No one should have to live like this. Can someone tell me what I can do. Should we set up organized, peaceful protest in front of Social Security offices? Should we go to Washington? We can’t really afford to travel on what they pay us so we need to organize. We need to stand up for our rights. I Have seen foreigners who can’t even speak English, walk up and get food stamps, health insurance, heating assistance and everything else the government offers without even blinking. I can’t even feed my daughter and myself without proving that we are nearly homeless. Something needs to be done. Who is with me and wants to help?

“Actually SSDI does receive Medicare, not Medicaid”

That’s what the article says. The main thrust was the affect on SSDI recipients. I was clarifying that SSI recipients receive Medicaid, so unless they also receive SSDI benefits, this may not apply to them.

Actually SSDI does receive Medicare, not Medicaid…and mine is going up. (some SSDI recipients do receive Medicaid AND Medicare, but all receive for Medicare)

Hi Delores.

There is no COLA *increase*, so benefits wont go up in 2011.

However, I have not seen anything about a decrease to the amount individuals will receive from Social Security in 2011.

As the post mentions, other expenses such as Medicare premiums may increase, which means the benefits may not go as far as before. However, with increasing gas and food prices, it is nothing new that Social Security benefits do not go as far they used to.

I am now 65 years old and have been on Social Security Disability since 2003. My sister told me she read an article stating that in 2011, those benefits will be reduced by $290.00. Can you verify this?

the cost of living is going up each years and we must get back on the road SSI and Social Security benefits must stop paying with our income and they muth give us back our money’s and the man in the White House must go away and not come back the black man in the white house is a very bad man and is going kill us all.
he is a god this a man that the bible tell us about he is going to end the would within 2 more years and jesus will be back for his people! he is a man was not birth in the U.S.A and now he want to stop our income!

we as seniors in this county are well deserving of a 250 check! if our goverment can help all the forienners who float into our county, then why are they not helping the citizens of this county? let them try and live on 800 or less for a month, rent,food, medical etc. entertainment, what’s that?
we cant go out to eat, or even rent a movie! you people in our white house should be ashamed of yourselves, treating us like second grade citizens! when you sit down to your 1000 dollar a plate dinners, think about the cititizens that are sitting down to soup and maybe crackers, since they have gone up in price to!

I think it is rime that we get a cost of living raise we can;t live off the same amount for this long when the cost of living goes up it is not fair we worked our butts off all these yrs and payed in our s.s. and now we are done this way lets have the president live off of what we do a month and he would be fit ti tie like we are………………………………………………………….

this is fucking bullshit if we the people do not get a COLA increase in our checks we have at the same payment structure for wo years now 2009-2010 is it fucking tyme for an adjustment to our payments they go up a couple of hundred of dollars because things are more expensive now than two years ago is’ny fucking going to do something about this or just lay the fuck back and skimp by each and every fucking month instead of fighting for $200-$300 more in your benefits come on we fucking gotta do something now before end of the year.

Back again we need to let our elected Officals Are doing the right thing by posting in the paper or find some way to let his supporter are doing and voted on and the ones that are waisting our money we find some one to run against this elected offical doing and get rid of him or her. Get a waste basket out and take out the waste one by one. They were elected by the people for the people. Look and read about our elected officals that been there for years, do we want that to repersent us. They laugh at us behind closed doors as they are making deals. Some have been up there for 40 years can hardly talk and walk, who is actual voting for these men.

I am sure if ssa increases due to cola and those who did not allow the COLA we will soon forget ssa and it will simply stop. I live in a great country after working 53 years to come to this! Thank you USA. Our govt really knows how to get any money you have.
