Alleged Onset Date (AOD) - the Alleged Onset Date is the date your disability began. Or, the date you claim entitlement to Social Security disability benefits.

I put my claim in the month of Sep, my pay date is 1 Apr 2010, will I get back pay.

That depends on the date Social Security determined that your disability began and, if you are applying for SSI, whether you meet the financial requirements. If you are applying for DIB benefits, then there is 5 month waiting period to consider.

In other words, there are too many factors for me to tell you if you will get back benefits. Fortunately, Social Security will notify you of your monthly benefits and any back benefits you may be entitled to.

Back in march 2008, I ruptured 3 lumbar vertabraes in an accident. I have been treated for this from day one, and have had two surgeries. The last surgery was a three level fusion in April 2009. It has just been determined that the S-1 section did not heal, and I will require more surgery. I just recieved my SSD approval, but they have changed my onset date to 4-14-10. They have all my records that prove my original onset date of 3-21-08. What went wrong here, and what can I do to fix this? I was really counting on the back pay as I have a large mortgage and a son in college. Please help, Thank You.

January i had a knee replacement the n i ha d three more surgery,s for infections. May they took my knee out. I file for SSD in June and was awarded SSD Nov 1st. I won’t receive my 1st check until May 9th. I am not going to get back pay from the time i file. They told me by there rule i didn;t become disable until Nov 1st. Why is that?

Possibly SSA did not see enough treatment until November?

You could contact SSA and speak to the case rep and inquire 1) what is the date SSA determined your disability began, and 2) why did Social Security decide the disability was not disabling earlier.

Ultimately it is possible to appeal even a favorable decision to try to get earlier benefits. The decision should go over the appeal process. If not, your local SSA office can go through the process.
